Yesterday on 06/08/2012, I went to work as normal got to work and had to attend court on some cases. I left my explorer running with the A/C on full blast. This is not uncommon for me to do this and the air always works great. It is normally so cold in the vehicle that I have to turn the air down. Yesterday I was in court for around six hours. When I got out of court I went to my vehicle and found that the A/C was blowing hot air full blast. My K-9 partner Duco was almost dead. I performed emergency care to him right there in the parking lot. He made it and is doing better today. He's still not where he was. The Vet
said if I hadn't found him when I did and he had been in there another hour he would have died. Deputy Whitson is in the same boat. His Crown Vic has alot of miles on it and dies on traffic stops without notice.
After yesterday's incident I decided that I would be a failure on my part if I didn't get a heat alarm for my patrol unit and do everything in my power to keep this incident from happening again with Whitson's dog. I was told that you could assist us with getting heat alarms for our patrol units. If this is true, it would a great thing. I have checked and the cost of these systems are
anywhere from 400 to 1000 dollars. Thats money that I just don't have at this time.
I have attached a picture of Deputy Whitson with K-9 Tuco on Right (closest to building) and I with K-9 Duco. Just a note for you Duco is the father of Tuco. I raised Tuco from a pup and trained him myself. Thank you...
